Our client is a highly respected and forward-thinking business operating at the intersection of property development and fully funded, design-led solutions for the public sector. As the organisation moves into its next phase of expansion, a new opportunity has arisen for an Construction Director to lead the operational delivery of multiple high-value projects and ensure the continued excellence of the development programme.
Working closely with the Director of Projects and the wider senior leadership team, the Construction Director will oversee all operational aspects of the development lifecycle, from early-stage design and pre-construction activity through to project completion and handover. This is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for shaping operational performance, managing multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring that all projects are delivered to the highest standards of time, cost, quality, safety, sustainability, and commercial rigour. The appointed individual will play a central role in enhancing delivery capability across the organisation as the business brings forward multiple developments each year.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in construction or development management, typically gained over a long career with at least ten years spent in senior leadership. They will demonstrate a track record of successfully managing large-scale development projects, coordinating diverse professional teams, and driving operational excellence across all stages of design, procurement, and construction. A strong command of construction contracts, particularly JCT, together with exceptional commercial acumen and experience negotiating complex agreements, is essential. Professional chartership such as MCIOB, MRICS or MAPM is preferred but not essential.
This is a highly visible, client-facing position requiring gravitas, credibility, and the ability to build trusted relationships with public sector partners, private operators, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will combine strategic insight with a hands-on leadership style, contributing to the long-term direction of the business while maintaining meticulous oversight of day-to-day operational activity. Integrity, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering outstanding outcomes will be critical attributes.
